Woman Suffering from Migraines Are More Likely To To Suffer From Depression
People with headache, in particular migraines, are much more likely to suffer from depression disorder, feel exhausted, and have a host of other severe physical symptoms, according to a study published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
The medical trial involved 1020 patients who buy cymbalta at headache clinics in three countries. Of the patient surveyed, 115 reported incidental headache (fewer than 15 headaches monthly) and 443 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the people were tested with migraines.
The study found women with chronic headache were four times more likely than those with incidental headache to report symptoms of major Major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also two times more prone to report a high degree of symptoms connected to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.
Among woman diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the clinical study found the likelihood of major Manic Depression increased 32-fold if the women also reported other severe symptoms.
“Painful physical symptoms should agitate or be a manifestation of major Depression in woman with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt online and Major Depression can heighten pain perception,” said clinical research author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This connection between migraine and major Psychotic Depression suggests a common neurobiology.”
Tietjen says medical investigation are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Psychotic Depression may be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.
“Careless of what’s causing the link between migraine and Psychotic Depression, psychiatric disorder such as Depression complicates headache management and can excite poorer outcomes for headache management,” said Tietjen.
The medical investigation was helped, in part, by the American Headache Society, which judges 18 million American people suffer from headache.
The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 15000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to bettering patient care through enlightenment and medical trial. A neurologist is a osteopath with a wide knowladge of monitoring, treating and managing diseases of the brain and nervous system such as apoplexy, Alzheimer’s sickness, epilepsy, Parkinson disorder, and frequent sclerosis.
